2. How does the film reflect changing attitudes to gender and ethnic identity in contemporary Britain?
As the two girls were passionate about football it showed that gender was represented as equals because in contempary britian, football is still seen as a male sport. And women are not supported in it. It shows them trying to make it in football changing the attitudes of gender, as the main character was better at football then the boys. She also rebelled against her ethnic identity, she followed her religion but also combined it with British ways.
3. What are the problems Jess faces as a British Asian 18-year-old girl?
She faces racsim, sexism and not being aloud to embrace english things as her parents are strong believers of there religion and enforce it upon her. They treat her well, but want her to be brought up with religion and learn to cook like an asian lady so she makes a good wife. They dont want her playing football, they want her to get married and study.
4. How can filmmakers make a difference by representing the diversity national, regional, religious
and ethnic identity in UK?
They make a difference by showing all different cultures and the way everybody lives differently. There is wide range of ethnic identy in the UK, and film makers can show its good things and bad things by representing the youth in positive ways showing its good.
5. What does this film say about gender?
The film shows womens points of view, it shows that women can be good at things and sometimes better too. It represents gender in a positive way, it shows all the women playing football seriously and shows how much support and how many people believe in them. They are all serious about becomming professional footballers, and gender is show positively. But the film aslo represents the struggles she goes through by trying to play football, when at the beginning of the film she is just playing in the park and the boys are saying she cant play. They show the sexism in a jokey lighter way.
